Nintendo's new Star Fox for Switch 2 launched June 25, 2026, and I captured the full game right at launch in handheld and then docked with a 4K output, both in the campaign and in an online battle. There's no commentary in this one, just gameplay, so this is a short look at how it looks and plays.
- Captured at launch (June 25, 2026) in handheld and docked (4K output), campaign plus an online battle in each mode.
- Docked, the on-screen frame-rate overlay read 60.0 FPS at every two-second check through the campaign and the online battle, with one brief reading of 59.3.
- Handheld is filmed off the Switch 2's screen, so there's no overlay and no numbers for handheld here.
What's in the video
- Handheld mode (0:08): the campaign, filmed off the Switch 2's screen, starting over the water and then a ruined city stage.
- Handheld mode, online battle (1:43): an online match, also filmed off the screen.
- Docked, 4K output (3:08): lossless 4K capture with an FPS and frame-time overlay, through a campaign stage.
- Docked, 4K output, online battle (6:35): an online match in a snowy map with the same overlay.
Handheld
I can't measure resolution or frame rate in handheld mode, so the handheld part is the game running on the screen. It covers the opening flight over the water, a darker ruined city with plenty of enemies and fire on screen, and then an online battle. For outside testing, Digital Foundry's review reports a stable 60fps with image quality that looks around 1080p, though it doesn't break that down by handheld and docked.

Docked (4K output)
All the numbers here are what the on-screen frame-rate overlay read in my docked capture, checked every two seconds. Through the campaign stage, with explosions, wingmen chatter and big ground targets, it read 60.0 FPS the whole way except for one brief 59.3.

The online battle docked was the same story: 60.0 FPS on the overlay at every check.
