AMD Brings FSR 4.1 to Z2 Handhelds and RX 6000 Cards, With an Xbox Ally Preview Driver on October 23

By Jerry VanOster · Oct 20, 2026

AMD's machine-learning upscaler is finally coming to handhelds. On October 20, AMD announced that FSR Upscaling 4.1 now supports Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, Ryzen AI Max processors, laptops with Ryzen AI 9 chips, and handhelds with the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A. Support for Xbox Series X|S consoles is "coming soon."

For handhelds and mainstream laptops, AMD built a new, more efficient version of the FSR 4.1 model. ASUS says the version running on the ROG Xbox Ally X and X20 is less than half the size of the original INT8 model. The release is part of AMD's Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver, and AMD notes that timing on handhelds depends on each manufacturer.

ASUS is first out of the gate. A preview GPU driver for the ROG Xbox Ally X and Ally X20 arrives on October 23 in Armoury Crate SE under Update Center, then Preview Updates. ASUS warns that preview updates can still have bugs, and the driver will move to Official Updates once it leaves preview. Beyond games that support FSR natively, a new FSR tile in the Command Center lets you switch on FSR 4.1 in more than 400 games that support FSR 3.1 or newer. ASUS recommends not combining it with RSR.

AMD's list of supported handheld chips doesn't include the Steam Deck or the Z1 Extreme. AMD also said FSR 4 Vulkan support is coming in its FSR SDK 2.4 release. GamingOnLinux says it hasn't seen a date for that yet.
