Anbernic RG DDS Preorders Are Live at $284.99, Shipping Starts December 10

By Jerry VanOster · Oct 16, 2026

Anbernic has opened preorders for the RG DDS, its dual-screen Android handheld. On Anbernic's store, the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model is $284.99, down from a regular price of $299.99, and the 12GB/256GB model is $349.99, down from $364.99. Notebookcheck calls that $15 cut a preorder discount. Colors are Glacier White, Basalt Black and Phantom Blue, and Anbernic says shipping starts gradually on December 10, 2026.

Per Anbernic's spec list, the RG DDS has a 4.7-inch 1200x720 IPS top screen and a 4-inch 960x720 IPS bottom screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, Android 16, a 6000mAh battery with 27W charging, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, a fan and heat pipe for cooling, and a built-in retractable stylus. Steam Deck HQ notes the screens line up for 3x native resolution in 3DS games.

Notebookcheck points out the units don't come with a microSD card and there's no official case yet. It also compares the RG DDS to the Retroid Pocket Duo, which is $269 ($249 until October 31) for 8GB/128GB and uses 120Hz OLED screens, while the RG DDS uses 60Hz IPS panels. The Anbernic does have the more powerful processor.

My take: that's a lot of money for an Android emulation handheld, and 60Hz IPS screens against OLED on the Pocket Duo is a real trade-off. It comes down to whether the faster chip and those 3DS-friendly screens matter more to you. With a December ship date, I'd want to see some real testing first. Are you leaning toward the RG DDS or the Pocket Duo? Let me know on X or in the YouTube comments.
