Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is already playable on Switch 2, at least the campaign. Anyone who pre-orders or pre-purchases the game gets early access to the full campaign now, ahead of a full launch that Nintendo Life lists as October 23. Multiplayer and the DMZ extraction mode come later.

Nintendo Life's Gavin Lane played the campaign to completion on Switch 2, 16 missions in around eight hours, and came away impressed with the port from Digital Legends. He didn't notice any big frame-rate dips from what seems to be a locked 30fps target, and says it feels like the full package both handheld and docked. There are compromises, like texture pop-in, a fidelity drop going into pre-rendered cutscenes, and some pixelated fire effects.
The interesting part for me is the graphics menu. It gives you a choice of NVIDIA's DLSS or Infinity Ward's in-house Filmic SMAA T2X, and the Quality menu also has AMD's FidelityFX CAS sharpening. Digital Foundry's Tom Morgan looked at early captures for Nintendo Life. He says DLSS appears to work from the same resolution as SMAA but gives cleaner edges and sharper textures, with door decals and foliage both looking better. He also points out that offering a choice at all suggests a trade-off, maybe a frame-rate hit with DLSS or some artifacts, and that the final build needs testing in motion before anyone knows for sure.
In actual play, Lane struggled to notice much difference and used SMAA for most of his run.
My take: I tested the Modern Warfare 4 beta on Switch 2 back in September, so I'm glad to hear the campaign holds up this well. Having DLSS as an option is a really nice touch. Whether it costs any frames, handheld or docked, is the first thing I'd want to know before picking a side.
