Epic Plans Broad Linux Distro Support for Games Launcher Preview; AppImage Returning

By Jerry VanOster · Nov 6, 2026

Quick answer: Epic Games told GamingOnLinux its Launcher Preview still aims to support as many Linux distributions as possible, including Fedora, SteamOS, Cachy and Omarchy, and that AppImage packaging will be restored this month after a shift to .deb.

Epic Games has given GamingOnLinux a clearer picture of where its Linux Epic Games Launcher Preview is headed. Communications Director Jake Jones said the Preview still plans to support as many Linux distributions as possible, naming Fedora, SteamOS, Cachy, Omarchy, and more.

Packaging has already shifted once. The Preview originally shipped as an AppImage, then moved to a .deb for Debian and Ubuntu. Epic's FAQ lists Fedora support as coming soon. Jones said Epic is still testing and evaluating packaging formats, and that AppImage will be restored this month.

Until packaging settles, install options may keep changing by distro. SteamOS is explicitly on Epic's named list alongside Fedora and others, which matters for Deck-class and Steam Machine Linux setups that want an official Epic client path rather than only third-party launchers.
