NVIDIA Says the RTX 5090 Isn't Discontinued, but It's Still Missing From Shelves

By Jerry VanOster · Oct 17, 2026

NVIDIA is pushing back on reports that the GeForce RTX 5090 is done. Senior VP Jeff Fisher reportedly told Taiwanese outlets, including 4Gamers and SJTV, that RTX 5090 production has not been discontinued and that NVIDIA will keep shipping the card. Wccftech says he made the remarks in Taipei around NVIDIA's RTX Spark launch event.

Fisher didn't claim supply is fine, though. In Tom's Hardware's translation of the 4Gamers report, he said the supply chain "is indeed somewhat constrained," but that NVIDIA is doing everything it can to get the product to market. This comes from interview reports, not a formal NVIDIA announcement, and Tom's Hardware notes that several outlets had asked NVIDIA for an official statement without getting one.

This follows the RTX 5090 disappearing from NVIDIA's Marketplace earlier this week, with Micro Center listing it as "Not Carried" and a reported halt in GB202 chip supply.

Buying one is still a different story. Tom's Hardware checked retailers and found RTX 5090s on Amazon for about $8,500, all from third-party sellers, nothing at Best Buy, and Newegg listings around $7,300 from what look like overseas sellers. As of its report, the card was still missing from NVIDIA's own store and from Micro Center.

My take: it's good to hear the 5090 isn't dead, but that doesn't help much when the only ones you can find are going for several times the $1,999 launch price. Until it's back in NVIDIA's store and at Micro Center, I'd treat this as a card most PC gamers just aren't getting anytime soon.
