Quick answer: A VideoCardz check of US retailers on October 28 found the cheapest verified new RTX 5080 at $1,979.99 at Micro Center (local pickup only) and $1,999.99 online at Best Buy, about double NVIDIA's $999 launch price.

NVIDIA launched the GeForce RTX 5080 in January 2025 at $999. A VideoCardz check of major US retailers on October 28 found the cheapest verified new cards now cost close to twice that, an increase of about $800 in two months.
VideoCardz counted only new cards with confirmed store inventory or an active purchase option, leaving out used, refurbished, backordered and sold-out cards plus marketplace offers it couldn't verify. The lowest prices were at Micro Center, where the Gigabyte WINDFORCE SFF OC and MSI SUPRIM LIQUID SOC are listed at $1,979.99 with stock at selected stores, but for local pickup only. The cheapest online option it could verify was the PNY RTX 5080 Triple Fan OC at Best Buy for $1,999.99.
That puts the cheapest verified RTX 5080 98.2% above MSRP, and the cheapest online option 100.2% above it. Prices also vary a lot by model. Micro Center lists the ASUS ROG Astral OC at $2,079.99, while the lower-tier ASUS PRIME OC costs $2,349.99.
The RTX 5090 is in an even tougher spot. VideoCardz says it has apparently come back in the US, with one model listed at $5,599, more than double its original price. Earlier this month the card disappeared from NVIDIA's Marketplace and Micro Center's catalog, and NVIDIA later said it isn't discontinued even though it was still missing from shelves.
NVIDIA hasn't issued a statement on pricing despite questions from VideoCardz and other outlets. It's still unclear which models are being made in enough quantity, or whether the RTX 5090 will ever return to its MSRP.
