Quick answer: Valve's October 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey puts Linux at 3.95% of Steam users, up 0.90 points. The Valve Steam Frame now appears in the VR headset chart at 4.13%.

Valve has published its Steam Hardware & Software Survey for October 2026, and Linux is back up to 3.95% of Steam users, a gain of 0.90 points over the previous month. Windows dropped 1.33 points to 93.70%, and macOS rose 0.43 points to 2.35%.
Looking only at Linux users, GamingOnLinux's breakdown has CachyOS on top at 16.39%, followed by SteamOS Holo at 13.89%, Arch Linux at 8.92%, Linux Mint 22.3 at 8.41% and Bazzite at 6.74%. Valve's own chart shows share of all Steam users instead, with CachyOS at 0.65% and SteamOS Holo at 0.55%.
SteamOS now shows up twice. Besides SteamOS Holo, there's a separate "SteamOS 64 bit" entry at 8.09% of Linux users, or 0.32% of all Steam users on Valve's chart, up 0.32 points from the month before. GamingOnLinux says this second entry might be the Steam Frame, but that's a guess. Valve's survey doesn't say which devices it covers.
The Steam Frame does have its own line in the VR headset chart now. "Valve Steam Frame" sits at 4.13% of VR headsets, up 3.72 points, which puts it sixth. Meta Quest 3 leads at 27.27%, followed by the Oculus Quest 2 at 22.23%, Meta Quest 3S at 11.04%, Valve Index at 9.90% and Pico 4 at 4.50%. I covered the SteamOS 0.5.6 beta for the Steam Frame back in October.
