- Runs pretty good on the Xbox Ally X. You can mix 720p, 900p or 1080p with any preset up to High pretty easily.
- At 1080p FSR3 Performance, 25W, the overlay showed about 70–80 FPS on Low, 60–73 on Medium and mostly 57–64 on High.
- At 17W it drops to roughly the 40s and 50s, depending on the preset.
- Expect some stutter in the open world and on load-ins on every device I tested. It's early access, so patches should help.
Forza Horizon 6 has pretty much the same graphics layout as Forza Horizon 5, and it runs pretty good on the ROG Xbox Ally X. The game itself has some stutter here and there, in load-in areas and especially in the open world. That isn't just this device; it happens on pretty much everything I've tested it on. You can mitigate some of it with settings, but it still shows up no matter what.
Xbox provided the early access game code, as shown at the start of the video.
What I tested
- 1080p, upscaled with FSR3 Performance
- Low, Medium and High presets
- 25W and 17W, 8GB VRAM
- Docked: Auto SR to 4K from a 720p game resolution, TAA, 35W
The video is mostly gameplay across a few races, with labels showing the settings, so the numbers below are overlay readings I sampled through each run, not averages.
Performance at 1080p FSR3 Performance
- Low, 25W: about 70 to 80 FPS, with the odd dip into the 50s
- Low, 17W: about 50 to 55 FPS
- Medium, 25W: about 60 to 73 FPS
- Medium, 17W: about 44 to 56 FPS
- High, 25W: mostly 57 to 64 FPS, with readings from the mid 40s to low 70s
- High, 17W: about 41 to 51 FPS

Other resolutions
720p is a great way to go on the small screen if you want no upscaling or a little more performance, though it wouldn't be the best option docked. There, you'd probably kick in Auto SR if you have it. 900p is a great option too, with or without upscaling: FSR3 Quality or Balanced, or even native if you don't mind a little lower FPS. The game runs well enough here that you can mix 720p, 900p and 1080p with any preset up to High pretty easily.
Auto SR 4K docked
At the end of the video there's some docked gameplay using Microsoft's Auto SR to upscale a 720p game resolution to 4K, at 35W with TAA. Going by the overlay, High read around 52 to 63 FPS, Medium around 60 to 63, Low around 62 to 68 and Very Low around 73 to 74.

Stutter
No matter what, you still get some frame time stutters and load-in issues, maybe from streaming in assets. I've seen it across different devices and PCs. Frame rate locks at 30, 40 or 60 FPS mitigate some of it, but don't get rid of all of it. Since it's early access, I'd expect future performance patches to smooth out a lot of these little issues.
Verdict
Forza Horizon 6 is in good shape on the ROG Xbox Ally X. At 1080p with FSR3 Performance, 25W covers anything from Low to High with solid frame rates, 17W is workable if you want more battery, and Auto SR makes docked 4K play an option. The stutter is the main thing holding it back right now.
